rezo

[verb: Spanish; I pray]

Rezo is the musical project of Irish duo Colm O’Connell and Rory McDaid. A collaboration borne out of the Covid pandemic (Rezo means “I pray” in Spanish), the pair continue to work virtually between Dublin and Malaga where Rory is based.

Their critically acclaimed debut album Travalog (2021) was recorded entirely remotely. UNCUT Magazine described it as an “atmospheric calling card from a band who inhabit a hazy hinterland between melodic electronica and the moodier proto-Americana of say Sparklehorse or Mercury Rev.…” Monolith Cocktail called it “a real achievement; a triumph of great melody, feel, and above all songwriting.

2022’s follow-up Sew Change, produced by Dan Doherty (Fontaines DC), imbued the folk-infused Americana of the debut with a new sensitivity but retaining the tapestry of elegant electronic trimmings. The record was described by Folk Radio UK as “even more remarkable” and “proof that Rezo are still at the forefront of generating fresh and creative collages of sounds. This is what great music is capable of being.

The Age of Self Help, Rezo’s third album, is scheduled for release in Summer 2024. Produced by Montreal heavyweight Marcus Paquin (Arcade Fire, The National, The Weather Station), it is a celebration of personal resilience in a world that doesn’t care. The great irony of the digital era is that it has never been harder to hear or be heard, to help or be helped.  This is The Age of Self Help.
